Omaha Hi/Lo

Omaha Hi/Lo and Texas holdem are most liked by people and have almost same technique of playing. But small differences in both the games make them two totally different games.

Omaha Hi/Lo is a game where each player is dealt four private cards and five communal cards are placed on the table, whereas in Texas holdem, the players are dealt only two private cards. In Omaha Hi/Lo the player has to make a hand by using exactly two private cards and three communal cards.

This specific number of cards makes this game different from Texas holdem. On Texas holdem there is no restriction of the number of private cards being used to make a hand. In Texas holdem, the player can use both the cards or one or none of the cards to make a hand. This apparently small difference in the games makes these two games very different from each other.

The though process involved in both the games is very different. A professional player in one game cannot switch to the other game very easily without thinking properly about the game. If you know to play Texas holdem well, it does not mean that you will be able to play Omaha Hi/Lo equally well. There are lots of strategies and tactics involved in both these games, and they are different for both the games. Thus, you have to know about both the games differently and learn them specifically.

Omaha Hi/Lo is a game which includes splitting of pot. There are two winners in the game. One with the highest five card hand and one with the lowest five card hand. If none of the lower hands qualify, then the highest five card hand wins the whole pot. In Texas holdem, if you an ace of heart in you r hand and the other cards on the table are also hearts, you have the game in your hand.

In Omaha Hi/Lo there are four private cards dealt and two have to be used, thus, there is always a chance for more interesting actions in this game. Omaha Hi/Lo is a game which has more action. The game splits the pot into two and still there can be a single player winning the whole pot.

Where as in Texas holdem as there are two cards dealt there is no choice to be made. Though both the games seem to be very similar at first glance, both need different set of skills to play the game. Omaha Hi/Lo involves more of critical thinking and action.

These games involve a lot of people and whenever you enter a casino, you will find it being played on every table.
