How to Play Omaha Hold’Em Poker

Omaha Hold Em Poker is very similar to Texas Hold Em Poker and both forms are equally popular on the international circuit. Personal cards are dealt to each player a three-card flop is turned up after a round of betting. There are two more community cards that are turned face up later in the game.

The betting is exactly like in the Texas Hold Em Poker though the number of hole cards is four instead of the two as in Texas Hold Em Poker. For the hand, a player has to necessarily use two holecards and two boardcards. But at the time of showdown the entire hand of the four personal cards needs to be turned face up.

The round of betting works as follows: The dealer gives out four cards each face down to each of the players and the first round of betting takes place. The dealer then burns a card and reveals three community cards face up. This is also known as the flop in poker. The second round of betting takes place.

The dealer has to successively turn over the fourth and fifth community cards followed by a round of betting each. These are also known as the fourth street and fifth street cards. The final showdown decides who gets the pot.

You cannot play the board in Omaha Hold Em Poker because you must use the combination of three cards from the board and two of your own to make the final hand. In Omaha Hold Em Poker a further complication is loved by some players in the form of two hands. This is called high-low splits, 8-or-better. A player may build a high hand and a low hand by using two cards from his personal cards and three from the board each. A qualifying low hand that includes 8-or-better is applicable to to all high-low games. The best high hand too wins the game if there is no hand that qualifies for the low hands.

For the betting, all the players may use varying combinations of blinds and ante. Omaha Hold Em Poker is generally considered more technical and a trifle complicated can the regular Texas Hold Em poker games.

The re-deal rules apply too if the dealer has mistakenly dealt extra cards to a player or exposes a card that should have been face down. For example, if the dealer exposes the fourth card of the community group before the betting has been completed by all the players, the card goes out of play. This happens even if the subsequent players decide to fold and sit out. The dealer has to burn the card that would have been the fifth street card and deal a fresh card as the fourth street card.

A round of betting has to follow and the dealer can re-shuffle the pack and expose the fifth street card. However, if the fifth street card is wrongly exposed the procedure of burning the card and turning up a fresh fifth street card is followed.
